Dry ice party!

We got a delivery today of a frozen item. It came with a pack of dry ice, so as to keep it frozen.

What do you do with dry ice? We made martinis. They ended up slightly carbonated. The olives solidified. The flavor was not changed, but it was really fun to drink from "smoking" martini glasses. Hee.

Well, pals and gals, next time you chop chiles, even mild ones like poblano or serrano, do yourself a favor and wear glasses of some sort. I got a chemical burn in my eye and on my eyelid when a poblano chile squirted like a grapefruit. Who knew?

It looked awful the next day, but my vision was clear. The 2nd day I woke up with a film in front of my vision, and pain like you wouldn't believe. I got in to the eye doctor at 10 that morning, and thank goodness, only superficial damage. One combo antibiotic/steroid ointment later, and things are quickly improved. I've still got a burn right on the edge of the eyelid one week later, but the vision is good and the pain is long gone.

Also, it's really nerve-wracking driving with one eye fogged. I don't recommend it. If it happens again, I'll get someone to drive me, because, while nothing happened, if it had, and I was the cop who handled the incident, I'd have ticketed me for driving while impaired.
